At Northminster, we believe God has placed us here for a purpose—to be an Outpost for Christ in a changing world. That means we are a refuge, a preparation ground, and a launch point where people are equipped to follow Jesus, grow in faith, build relationships, and go out to make an impact.

Our Mission

Everything we do flows from this mission:

An Outpost for Christ, Impacting Future Generations Together.

What Does It Mean to Be an Outpost?

An outpost is more than a building. It’s a strategic base. A lifeline. A community hub.

At Northminster, being an outpost means:

  • Providing refuge in a chaotic world through Christ-centered worship and care

  • Equipping people to live faithfully and courageously

  • Sending disciples into neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and beyond

  • Building a legacy that shapes future generations for Christ

We’re deeply rooted in our faith and boldly adventurous in how we live it out.

A man with gray hair wearing a bright green t-shirt with white circular logo and text is painting or repairing a section near the ceiling of a white cinder block wall in a basement or interior space.
A man stands on a stage in front of an audience inside a church, with a large wooden cross draped in white cloth behind him. The audience is seated in pews, attentively listening, with some looking towards the speaker. The setting includes floral arrangements and purple lighting.
An older man with glasses and a checkered shirt places his hands on a young boy's head, who is smiling and laughing while sitting on a woman's lap. The woman has long dark hair and is wearing a blue patterned shirt, smiling down at the boy in a joyful moment.

The Northminster Way

The Northminster Way is how we live our mission. It’s a four-part rhythm—rooted in Scripture, lived in community, and propelled by purpose. This is more than a strategy; it’s our shared language, our discipleship path, and our church-wide compass.

Build Relationships

Northminster strives to be a place where names are known, stories are honored, and real relationships are formed.

“Therefore welcome one another as Christ has welcomed you, for the glory of God.” (Romans 15:7)

  • Front Porch

We use the image of a front porch— welcoming and relational. It’s where conversations start and friendships are formed. At Northminster, we create spaces where people can take their first steps toward belonging.

    • Community events like Fall Fun Fest, Game Nights, and Tree Lighting

    • Youth and kids programming like NSM, VBS, and KNOT Club

    • Local partnerships like Finneytown Football Dinners

    • Life Groups and Guest Experience Teams welcoming people in

    • Pastoral and congregational care for all seasons of life

Develop Disciples

Discipleship is not a program—it’s a way of life. We’re committed to forming Christ-followers who live boldly and biblically.

“Go therefore and make disciples... teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:19–20)

  • Deep Roots

We speak of deep roots—spiritual formation that anchors us in Christ. Discipleship isn’t just about learning; it’s about becoming. We dig deep into Scripture, prayer, and spiritual habits to grow strong in faith and bold in obedience.

    • Biblical preaching and teaching on Sundays

    • Outpost Academy and discipleship classes

    • Prayer culture and spiritual mentorship

    • Regular rhythms of study, reflection, and worship

We’re not meant to walk alone. We create a culture of support, care, and intergenerational relationships that carry one another forward.

“Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.” (Galatians 6:2)

Cultivate Community

  • Do Life Together

We say: we do life together. It’s not about surface-level connections but deep, authentic relationships where burdens are shared, growth is mutual, and faith is walked out in community.

    • Ongoing support through Life Groups

    • Pastoral counseling and congregational care

    • Prayer ministry and community aid

Go Out

Our faith isn’t just for Sunday—it’s for every space we inhabit. We equip everyday people to live as everyday missionaries.

“You will be my witnesses… to the ends of the earth.” (Acts 1:8)

  • Everyday Missionaries

We talk about being everyday missionaries—people living on mission in their schools, workplaces, homes, and neighborhoods. You don’t have to cross an ocean to serve Christ—you just have to cross the street. We equip people to live sent, every day.

    • Community impact through service projects

    • Local and global mission partnerships

    • Encouraging faith-sharing in ordinary life

    • Training and equipping for missional living

Our Beliefs

  • The source of our belief is not found in us, but in God’s grace.  Our knowledge of God rests on God’s goodness, not our intelligence, spirituality, or morality.  However, as Paul said, in this world “we see through the glass darkly.”[1]  At Northminster, we seek to speak in the language of belief, not certainty.

    [1] 1 Corinthians 13:12

  • We understand scripture as the inspired word of God.  Written by ordinary believers and inspired by God.  In that sense, it is our rule and guide for life.

  • We believe that God is living, active, and sovereign in our secular world.  This secular world is in part why we speak of our church as an outpost.  We are different.  This seems an obvious thing for a church to say, but in the world as we know it, it is quite difficult to maintain a meaningful belief that God moves and acts in the day-to-day of our experience.  I read just the other day that “prayers don’t stop bullets.”  The intent of the comment was to encourage something more helpful than prayer - which qualifies as good advice only if we believe God is not active or sovereign in this world.

  • God came to us (not we, to him), became one of us (He became human, not we godly), and as one of us made things right between us and God.  Through his life and death, he paid the debt for our sins, making peace with God possible again[1].  Without Jesus we are completely and shockingly without hope.  This is why we work to keep Christ at the center.  What else would we do?

    [1] Colossians 2:13-14

  • The scriptures describe the Holy Spirit in many ways, but since the most ancient times Christians identified the Spirit as the Lord, the Giver of Life.  Paul writes over and over that the new life we have in Christ is a gracious work of the Spirit.  To enter our days alone, without the Spirit, without our brothers and sisters is a truly grave error of pride.

  • Though we live in a radically individualistic culture; we believe when called by God we are called into a community of believers.  It is virtually impossible to grow in our faith or accomplish God’s mission without each other.

  • All of us are sent.  All of us have circles of influence.  Now we are to use that influence not simply for our interests, or the interests of those we love, but we are also called to consider how our influence can be used for Christ.

Our Transformation

From Silos to Shared Mission

Over the past several years, Northminster has undergone a profound transformation—not just in structure, but in spirit.

We’ve moved from disconnected ministry efforts to a unified, church-wide rhythm of mission and discipleship. Through prayer, bold leadership, and faithful perseverance, we’ve been re-centered on Jesus and re-committed to building an Outpost for Christ that truly impacts future generations.

This transformation has clarified who we are, why we exist, and how we move forward together.

What We’ve Learned:

  • Mission Requires Alignment – When every ministry shares the same framework, clarity and collaboration grow.

  • Change Takes Courage – Letting go of “the way we’ve always done it” opened space for something better.

  • Vision Needs a Pathway – The Northminster Way gives every person a way to connect, grow, and serve with purpose.

  • Transformation is Ongoing – We’re not done. We’re still listening, adjusting, and following where God leads.
