A Remarkable Gift, A Mission Moving Forward: Sanctuary Project Update
At Northminster, we believe God has placed us here for a purpose: To be an Outpost for Christ, Impacting Future Generations Together.
That calling shapes everything we do—and everything we build. It means creating a place that is more than a building. An outpost is a lifeline. A preparation ground. A community hub where people are equipped to follow Jesus, grow in faith, and go out to make a difference.
Being an outpost means:
Providing refuge in a chaotic world through Christ-centered worship and care
Equipping disciples to live faithfully and courageously wherever God calls them
Sending people out into neighborhoods, workplaces, schools, and communities
Building a legacy that shapes future generations for Christ
We’re deeply rooted in our faith and boldly adventurous in how we live it out.
That’s the heart behind the Sanctuary Project. We’re not just renovating a space—we’re investing in the mission God has given us. We’re preparing a sanctuary that honors our tradition and positions us to serve, worship, and grow for the next 50 years.
Where We Stand Today
Over the past several weeks, our Sanctuary has been a space of construction and creativity. Here's a snapshot of the progress that’s already been made:
The new chancel stage platform has been built and is nearing final completion.
The chancel stage electrical and audio infrastructure is fully installed.
Painting begins July 14.
Flooring, including carpet and stage finish, begins July 28.
Eight new side lights for improved chancel lighting have been ordered and are ready for installation.
A Gift That Moves the Mission Forward
In June, we were approached by a member of the congregation who had been following the project with deep interest and prayer. After learning more about the long-term vision—including future upgrades to lighting and video capabilities—this individual made a remarkable and generous six-figure anonymous gift.
A portion designated for the installation of dual side-wall LED video screens
A portion is designated for a lighting consultant to help plan future updates
The timing and scope of this gift are extraordinary. Because of it, we are able to move directly into Phase Two of the Sanctuary Project—without relying on reserve funds, capital campaigns, or our operating budget. It’s a profound expression of trust in the mission and future of our church.
At a special called Session meeting this past Tuesday, July 8, the Session voted unanimously to accept the gift and to approve the expanded scope of Phase Two.
One meaningful outcome of this new phase is that the cross at the center of our Sanctuary will be fully visible in worship again.
Phase Two: Expanding the Vision
Thanks to this generosity, we can move forward with elements of the project that were originally planned for a later phase. Here’s what Phase Two now includes:
Installation of dual 16:9 LED video screens, positioned 16 feet closer to the congregation for enhanced visibility and clarity
Removal of front chandeliers over the extended chancel, improving sightlines and aligning with the updated platform
Professional lighting consultation to guide a thoughtful, cohesive lighting plan that honors both the tradition and functionality of the space
A Sanctuary for the Journey Ahead
We’re in an exciting season of transformation. This isn’t just about construction—it’s about calling. About creating a space that supports powerful worship, deeper connection, and meaningful ministry for years to come.
We’ll continue to keep you informed as work progresses. Look for updates in worship, through newsletters, and videos. And as always, if you’d like to learn more or explore ways to support the project, please reach out to a member of our staff or Session.
Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and faithful presence in this journey. The Sanctuary has always been more than a room—it’s a reflection of who we are, what we believe, and where we’re going together.
